An oil rig explosion took place within the Gulf Coast on a rig. Nobody died when a single person was injured. The reason for the blast isn’t yet known. On the coast of Louisiana, near Vermillion Bay, the blast took place. . The Vermillion oil rig is in shallower waters than the Deepwater rig that exploded and triggered the Gulf of Mexico oil leak.
One hurt in oil rig explosion
The gas platform explosion had reports of only one injured. Only one person was hurt. First, the drilling rig exploded. As that was happening, 13 people went overboard. The newest York Times reports the Coast Guard got more than one report of an oil platform explosion after 9 a.m.. Helicopters and Coast Guard vessels made their way to the place. It was an hour before they arrived. All 13 workers on duty were there and rescued. Since the Deepwater gas platform explosion killed 11, it is surprising that only one person was injured.
Shallow waters
The Deepwater Horizon oil rig was drilling in very deep water. The Vermillion Oil Rig 380 wasn’t. You will find only 340 feet of water beneath the Vermillion oil rig. It is also only about 100 miles off the coastline of Louisiana. According to CNN, the oil rig had previously been producing 9.2 million cubic feet of natural gas and 1,400 barrels of oil per day on average. Getting the fire out is the first thing the Coast Guard hopes to do. This is the first priority. As soon as people caught wind of the explosion, business shares went down. In fact, Mariner Energy dropped 5 percent.
Concerns over offshore drilling
Debate over offshore drilling has been hot for a while. It has been years. It looks really dangerous and has too numerous risks to the environment each time a gas platform explodes. Taxpayers generally have to pay for explosions since resource extraction companies hardly ever clean up their own mess, although British Petroleum has done a good job with its oil spill.
