Erin Andrews’ privacy has been invaded and I’m not going to play along. That’s the issue in play here, and there’s no justification for what happened. Crass commercialism wins again. It is about selling copies in the end. America’s puritanical view from the heartland will eventually be its undoing. Only once the “Oh my Lord, you’ll go blind” element is kicked to the curb and trampled on as is fitting such an inhuman notion will we demystify sex and fully enjoy being humans (rather than being frightened animals). Fear of sex and fear of women are like clown makeup that America wears before the rest of the world. And this clown is not respected for its artistry. The rest of the world is laughing at us.
But the Internet isn’t the key to changing that. The most specialized fringe fetishes can be found there, and these aren’t going to replace the fear with acceptance and respect. If our Puritan society wigged out less over nude women and accepted them as something extraordinary rather than as contraband, we’d be getting somewhere. I do not feel comfortable looking at video or pictures of people who have been filmed naked against their will, as it is an invasion of privacy that is far from sexy. However, looking at beautiful people filmed in consensual situations isn’t naughty and I feel no need for guilt. As an adult, I embrace the freedom.
Where will the next peep hole be?
